Marbella, between the Sierra Blanca Mountain and the Mediterranean Sea

Marbella has so much to offer that it’s very difficult to decide on its Top 10, especially as it covers a much wider area than just the town. It also takes in San Pedro Alcántara and Puerto Banús to the East and the lovely beaches of Elviria and Cabopino to the West.

We suggest you start with a horse-drawn carriage ride around Marbella. Sitting in an open carriage, taking in the sights has to beat walking and it’s not a method of transport you’ll find in too many places. The carriages are lined up and waiting for you by the Parque Alameda right in the centre of the town.

A stroll along the Paseo Marítimo is next on the list. If you’re wondering what that is; it’s a delightful palm tree promenade along the seafront lined with restaurants and bars on one side and sea and sand on the other.

Don’t forget to pass our sight number three on the way to the paseo, or returning from it. On the Avenida del Mar in the centre of town, which links the beach to the Parque Alameda, there is a series of bronze sculptures by famous Spanish artist Salvador Dalí.

Drive along the Golden Mile. This glamorous stretch of road, which takes you from Marbella to Puerto Banús is home to some of the coast’s prime real estate, plus a king’s palace. Look out for the Saudi royal palace on the mountainside of the road.

You’ll also pass iconic sights number five and six: the Marbella Club Hotel and the famous Puente Romano with its exclusive Plaza Village, where you can enjoy Spanish and international cuisine.

Puerto Banús marina

Puerto Banús is a collection of sights. By day, walk around the harbour and admire the boats, luxury cars and glamorous set. You can also enjoy shopping at the port’s high-end boutiques, including Giorgio Armani, Fendi and Prada, or head for department store El Corte Inglés. By night, sip a cocktail in Sinatra’s bar and watch the world arrive to party.

Attraction number eight is unmissable in that you can see it wherever you are in the Marbella area: it is La Concha mountain, which stands looking over Marbella like a guardian angel. You can also hike up the mountain and enjoy magnificent vistas from its heights.

Marbella’s beaches deserve a place in its Top 10. Head for the wide expanse of Elviria beach, where you’ll also find some top class beach clubs.

Finally, and it’s by no means the least, you must visit Marbella’s Casco Antiguo – the Old Town – and explore its charming lanes with chic boutiques, fantastic tapas bars and romantic restaurants. Explore these top-ten landmarks and you’ll have enjoyed a snap shot of the best of Marbella.
